How we build every cabinet.

Every cabinet we make is cut on our own CNC machines and built out of plywood, never particleboard. Here’s exactly what goes into one.

How it’s built

The six parts that matter most.

Any cabinet looks good on install day. What keeps it square and solid twenty years later are the parts you don’t see, so that’s where we put the money.

01

The box

3/4″ multi-ply plywood

The sides, top, bottom and shelves are all 3/4″ multi-ply plywood. It holds screws for good, carries a stone countertop without sagging, and handles the steam and spills of a kitchen that gets used.

02

The back

1/2″ plywood

The back is 1/2″ plywood, or 3/4″ when a job needs it. It keeps the box square and gives wall cabinets something solid to hang from.

03

The joinery

Cabineo by Lamello

We join every corner with Lamello Cabineo connectors, set into holes our CNC drills. The corners come out tight and square every time.

04

The drawers

Baltic birch dovetail

Our drawer boxes are Baltic birch with dovetail joints, the same joint furniture makers have trusted for centuries.

05

The motion

Soft-close · full extension

Drawers ride on undermount slides that open all the way out, and the doors have soft-close hinges, so nothing slams.

06

The legs

Axilo by Häfele

Each cabinet sits on adjustable legs, so your installer can level it on an uneven floor. The toe kick hides them.

What hardware do you use?

Lamello Cabineo connectors at the corners, Baltic birch dovetail drawers, undermount soft-close slides that open all the way, soft-close hinges and Häfele Axilo adjustable legs.

How long does it take?

Usually 3–4 weeks from when you approve the order. We cut and build everything in our own shop, so we’re not waiting on a factory somewhere else.

Where are X-Trim cabinets made?

In our shop on Hanford Street in Newark, New Jersey. X-Trim is part of FatAtelier, our millwork studio, and everything is built in-house.

Which door styles can I choose?

You can go with flat panel, which is pre-finished Tafisa or Lummia laminate in wood grains, solid colors, high gloss or matte. Or you can go with painted doors, like Shaker, which we cut on our CNC and paint in our shop in any color.

What corner and storage options do you offer?

Magic Corner swing-outs, L-shaped corner cabinets with folding doors, touch-open trash pull-outs, pull-out pantries, cabinet fronts for panel-ready appliances, and drawer organizers.
